Back in May I received a pretty fantastic phone call. As part of the publicity tour for her new book The Dragon Thief, author Zetta Elliott was appearing on TVO’s The Agenda with Steve Paikin to speak on diversity in children’s books. And the show producer wanted me to join the conversation!
I know Zetta and deeply respect her work and I was further overjoyed to hear that, as a part of a summer episode, this segment would be taped with the fabulous journalist, Nam Kiwanuka. Three black women talking about systemic issues in book publishing on prime time television. Hell, yes, I’m in.
The episode of The Agenda aired on August 30th and I am thrilled by the thoughtful response. If you couldn’t watch it live (don’t worry, I couldn’t either!) here it is below.
